Seed, Soil, and Sun

I've never really been green-thumbed but I always get inspired when I see vegetable patches boasting fruits and vegetables. So being given some space in our new dwelling, why not try our hand at growing your own food? I'm a beginner at this but hope that determination and will could yield something good.

We start with our herb, vegetable, and fruit garden. So for our herb garden we've decided on rosemary, thyme, lemon-thyme, mint, sage and oregano. For fruits, we've started a strawberry patch and have planted a loganberry plant. For vegetables we've planted 3 types of tomatoes (technically a fruit in case a botanist is reading), and we've started, from seed, peas, assorted chili peppers, bell peppers, radish, carrots, and red beets. So far so good. We are hoping to enjoy the fruits of our labor in the summer and hoping that by the end of the summer, we will have pickled radishes, preserved and/or sun dried tomatoes, and maybe even home made catsup, as well as well as have our fill of nice strawberries.

Some latest images of our young garden. More to come...

The loganberry is not suppose to fruit this season yet, and so we were surprised to see this new bud that becomes the berry ! Pretty exciting.

We sowed the seeds only about 4-5 weeks ago and here is our very first pick of radishes.

Below was the flower which formed the fruit above. Slowly but surely, we'll have loads of strawberries.

From seed the tiny sprout formed...

Eight weeks later a thriving pea vine.

Start of potted herb garden.

All of them are now producing loads of leaves which is exactly what we want!

Tiny tomato plants in a simple grow bag.

Eight weeks later, leafy and bearing desireable buds.
